Lo Romero Golf Raises €73,000 for Charity at Its Sixth Annual Invitational Tournament

The Alicante golf club joins forces for the sixth consecutive year to support the Lola del Pasico Residence

It was a day when golf became about much more than sport. On Saturday, 24 May, 75 players took to the fairways at the Lo Romero Golf Invitational Tournament 2025, united by a common goal: supporting an important social cause. For the sixth consecutive year, the golf club in Pilar de la Horadada (Alicante) generously donated the use of its facilities, with this year’s proceeds benefiting the Lola del Pasico Residence in Torre Pacheco (Murcia).

In previous editions, the tournament helped fund the construction of the residence, whose foundation stone was laid in 2022. Today, the centre is already home to 12 residents with intellectual disabilities, with capacity set to increase progressively. “This project gives residents the opportunity to live more independently beyond the family environment,” the organisers explained.

“I’m proud to have contributed my small part, both through prize donations and a personal contribution,” said Borja Vera, CEO of Votum World and the tournament’s Scratch Champion, after signing for an impressive 71-round score.

Charity on the Fairways

The outstanding condition of the course—with its fast greens and immaculate bunkers—provided the perfect setting for the event. The tee markers honoured the tournament’s first 18 corporate sponsors, while the list of supporters—including institutions, professionals, suppliers and friends—continued to grow throughout the campaign.

Donations remain open through the Fundación Dar de Sí, allowing supporters to continue contributing to the project.

The golfing community showed remarkable generosity. Legends such as José María Olazábal, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, José Manuel Lara, and Colin Montgomerie donated signed memorabilia, while sporting stars including Carlos Alcaraz, Juan Carlos Ferrero, and Alejandro Valverde also pledged their support.

Numerous golf clubs joined the initiative, including Real Club de Golf Guadalhorce (Málaga), Real Golf de Bendinat (Mallorca), Golf Santa Ponsa (Mallorca), Las Ramblas Golf (Alicante), as well as international venues such as Faldo Course Berlin and Al Houara Golf Club in Tangier.

A Record-Breaking Fundraising Total

The tournament raised an outstanding €73,000, comfortably surpassing the €40,000 collected in 2024.

Ascensión Méndez, from Asociación Prometeo, explained that the funds will help “pay off the remaining loans” linked to the project, which was spearheaded by Pedro Jiménez, former Mayor of Torre Pacheco and an avid golfer who, at 91 years of age, continues to inspire those around him.

Just two days later, the President of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, officially inaugurated the residence. During the ceremony, Méndez thanked what she described as an “invisible army of generous hearts,” while López Miras praised Pedro Jiménez, saying: “Yours is an enormous heart,” and described the residence as “a model for the entire region.”

One of the most emotional moments came with the presentation of two Lo Romero Golf flags, personally dedicated by Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero to the residents, bearing the message:

“To the friends of Lola del Pasico, with affection.”

Tournament Winners

Following the competition, which began at 8:30 a.m., players enjoyed a charity lunch prepared by Chef Joaquín Madrid, from El Rincón de Joaquín, who once again donated his services in support of the event.

The Mediolanum Foundation also reinforced the fundraising effort by contributing an additional €10,000 after the tournament surpassed €25,000, continuing the matching initiative first introduced in 2023.

With more than 40 prizes awarded in the closing raffle, the tournament once again demonstrated that, “when public institutions cannot reach every need, society steps forward.”
